The inverted pyramid, the importance of not burying the lede, checking your sources, and — agast! — murdering your darlings.
So, yeah, I learned a few things in journalism school.
But I honed my craft on the job as a professional writer and communicator, including 15 years as a business reporter and editor at daily newspapers and online news services.
I’m a jack-of-all-communications. Large organizations, such as the University of Florida, hire me to craft everything from news releases and web content to talking points and scripts. I’ve helped lead teams to redesign websites and produce glossy publications. I also serve as a media specialist and pitch in as a freelance copy editor at the New York Times News Service’s editing center in Gainesville, Fla.
